Are you interested in antiques? Are you into buying antiques? This may sound obvious but the best place to find antiques is NOT in auctions, or at flea markets, or at antique shows. They are in the homes of people!
Still many dealers and collectors search in places where they think there’s a lot of antiques to be found, missing the fact that most originate in people’s homes.
Not just in any home though. A qualifying factor is antiques are mostly found in old people’s homes. Generally, people who are younger do not have antiques as much as older people do.
Why? Because older folks still have most of the stuff they ever owned. They all come from a generation whose tendency is to keep or save everything. Hence, you won’t be surprised to find in their homes toys from the 1950s, an old freezer, stove, rocking chair, anything they deemed too good to throw away.
So now that you know this, don’t spend too much time finding and buying antiques in garage or estate sales, stores which are of the “goodwill” type, flea markets and auctions. Go to where the antiques originate – older people’s homes! This may sound elementary but doing this will put you way way ahead of other antique collectors and dealers.
I’m not saying that going to auctions, flea markets, etc. is not good. While they are good sources of antiques, don’t miss going direct to the original source.
